People of Galway’s West End – Margaret Bohan of Dela Restaurant

Margaret is a wonderful person with the head full of amazing ideas.

She is running one of the busiest restaurants in town yet when you meet her, the first thing you notice is how humble she is. Her customers get drawn by her dedication and passion for food. And the food is something else – she grows and harvest vegetables, salad leaves, herbs and edible flowers at her family farm in Moycullen. She only started with a small box of herbs and edible flowers and in 3 years grew it to a 100/30ft polytunnel.

Margaret has always been a very driven woman.
While raising 4 children she worked as a secretary in a primary school as well as managed Fat Freddy’s. In the mean time Margaret gained 2 Green Flag Awards while worked part time in Mulranny Park Hotel, where her husband Joe was Director of operations. No surprise the whole experience gave her the confidence to start her own restaurant.

Margaret spent all her life in Galway so it was only natural to open Dela down the west end where she used to hang out with her grannies who were born in Claddagh and Henry Street. She felt that West End is the heart and soul of Galway with character and potential. Dela fits well into the area with its cosy interiors, warm staff and delicious food. Their famous brunch takes over half of Dominick Street every weekend as people are queuing despite the weather conditions. Sure#notallbrunchesarecreatedequal
